DSP#3 Update7 - 11eyes release

Denwatls proudly presents: 11Eyes!

Gray. A gray world, a gray life, a gray happiness. Indeed, to Kakeru, it was as if the world had turned a dull, impenetrable gray, ever since that day. He had friends Tadashi and Kaori, he had his childhood friend, Yuka, he had what 'ought' be there. And yet, he could never escape it, never overcome, never get away from...

But the workings of fate are not so simple. The stain of darkness never so easily cleansed. And indeed, it is those same, immutable cogs that will draw Kakeru away from the simple, ‘peaceful’ life he knew...

This is a complete English patch, translating the whole of the game!  Simply place the patch2.xp3 in the game folder and start.  Remember to set your system locale is Japanese and ensure the path to the 11eyes executable contains only English (ASCII) and Japanese characters!

Be sure to have already installed the 1.01 patch from Lass's website.

Also, if using windows 10, be sure to have Japanese fonts installed. The game defaults to MS Gothic and may not display correctly (such as getting stuck on a certain scene) without them.

Yeah I remember when this was still in the VNTLS OP after I'd watched the anime. No fucking way.

For real! It was surprising how many liberties the anime took with the VN. All that post-anime drama around the patch was certainly motivation for us to finally bring this to the West, and now it's here, at last! We started from scratch of course, including editing the sketchbook images.

I don't believe any English walkthroughs have been posted yet, though you do have ample save slots to cover all the decision points. Fortunately there aren't really any hidden choices, so you shouldn't need one to get the ending you want.

This translation may put that anime drama to rest since Yuka wasn't a bad character to begin with. As my first post on this site, thank you for the translation, Denwatls. In the possible future, would there ever be a translation for the after-story fandisk as well?
Saturday, December 17th 2016 @ 9:28 PM

Posted by Denwatls:

8manrokz: is that the digital version? Try extracting Update1.01.exe with 7zip or similar and placing the files in the game folder.

Sexorcist: You're welcome! The fan-disk isn't slotted for DSP4, but it could be a possibility somewhere further down the road.

Hey there. I'm trying to play the game but saving the english patch into the folder causes it to not start. I have Patch 1.01 from the Lass website in and its works fine when the English patch isn't in the game folder. I have it set to Japanese locale of course.

I am unsure about this though... "ensure the path to the 11eyes executable contains only English (ASCII) and Japanese characters!" Could that be the problem?
Sunday, December 18th 2016 @ 7:20 AM

Posted by Denwatls:

MCAL: Potentially. Does it give you an error when it tries to start? If so, can you post it?

The path thing is something to kirikiri in general, we've noticed it having problems before when dealing with special characters (like Æ and É). You'd want to path to be something like C:\ゲーム\Lass\ for example.

Also how do I figure out the gamepath. I use Windows 8.
Sunday, December 18th 2016 @ 10:00 AM

Posted by Denwatls:

MCAL: That's okay, it looks like you're having the problem we're seeing with the digital versions. The updater.exe cant' find the game for some reason, but if you right-click on it and tell it to 'extract all' in the game folder, you'll have everything you need (basically the Updater.exe didn't update the game, and our patch is based on the update).

You may need something like 7zip if you don't already have it: http://www.7-zip.org/

There should be a patch.xp3 and a patch.xp3.sig in the game folder once you've done the extraction.

and even saving around those lines works fine. I'm also a little curious about how your backlog looks, the text seems to be shifting to the next line too early (it should fill most of the page like it does in the one I have). Do you have a non windows-10 machine to try it on? You're also not loading a save from the 1.0 version of the game, right?
Sunday, December 18th 2016 @ 11:01 AM

Posted by whitetragedy:

No, I just started a new game using windows 10. I'll try playing on my windows 8 PC and see how it goes.
Sunday, December 18th 2016 @ 11:37 AM

Posted by MCAL:

By updater.exe you are referring to the 1.01 patch by Lass right? Do I extract it after I unzip it or before? Also when I download the english patch I only gte patch.xp3. I don't get patch.xp3.sig. I just download the patch from this site and that is it. Was there a step I'm missing?

Again, sorry for all the questions. I wish I were smarter at this.

Macro: You welcome!

Of course! The easiest way is probably email (it's under 'View Profile'). We also have accounts on various VN forums if you would like to PM us instead. We've noticed a few typos as we've watched feedback and wouldn't be against a 1.01 patch if they're numerous enough. Please reference the full line and day if possible, it will make it much more likely that we can find it.

Alex: it's not slotted for DSP#4, but I won't rule it out entirely. We'd come directly from Japanese rather than trying to route through Chinese of course.
Thursday, December 22nd 2016 @ 4:07 PM

Posted by Alex:

@Denwatls Glad to know! And definitely didn't mean translating from the Chinese translation. Translating from a secondary source into a new language is never a good idea.

There are some issues with the port though, but otherwise it's not entirely bad. Just has some lag and framerate issues at rare times. Problem would be implementing single byte or variable width characters.

Posted by Kanae:

Denwatls, have you played 3days? Several characters from it are directly referenced in 11eyes like the cafe's wife and that Walter fellow.

Also, I loved 11eyes and had been wanting to read it since the awful anime. Sad to see some people calling it generic, when it's anything but that.

Glad you enjoyed it!

@Denwatls, If you OK with it, I don't mind proofreading the entire Visual novel! With work, I could have it done in 4 to 8 weeks!

I have been wanting to give something back to the visual novel community, and this seems like the perfect Opportunity to do just that.

Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you,

Alchemicalhaze: You're welcome!

While not against it, proofreading (let alone editing) is not a commitment to be taken lightly. The sum of 11Eyes's text in word count is comparable to reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix twice (or the entirety of War and Peace).

Moreover, a proof-reader must take care with each line, ensuring they don't skim or gloss-over set phrases and common idioms that may actually have typos in them. Blowing through something like 1000 lines in an hour is only marginally helpful at best.

For some numerical perspective, if one read 1000 lines of 11Eyes every day it would take 50 days (almost 2 months) to go over the entirety of the text. If each session takes 4 hours (to be slow and attentive, including cross-referencing and verifying consistency in a character's Voice) is 200 hours. In another light, it'd take an employee working 40 hours a week 5 weeks to complete if that was was their sole focus for 8 hours every work day.

Do you have 4 hours every day for the next 2 months?

It's not something that can be regaled to binge sessions on the weekend; extended focus on a single task leads the mind to be inattentive and err. We want to create something of quality and releasing a 1.01 patch still containing mistakes would be counter to that.

If you're truly willing and able to commit to this task we can provide the scenario scripts (if you don't already have them from the patch2.xp3) as a means to prove your dedication and ability. Bear in mind that completing 'quickly' is not sufficient, we want quality and timely.

There's also nothing wrong with spending your time in other fashions. These are tough, time-consuming jobs; people make careers on this activity precisely because of the time, effort, and skill needed to perform them.

Tuesday, December 27th 2016 @ 10:43 AM

Posted by Denwatls:

We especially don't want to introduce a slurry of editors/proofreaders with different tones, styles, and voices. A good work is consistent, and the more cooks in the kitchen the more inconsistent the meals become. Submitting typos is actually quite helpful, it allows us to compile them and, if enough are found, release a patch to fix them. That is a way to contribute without the time and dedication needed for something like proof-reading or editing.

We do appreciate the sentiment.

Mat: Both patches? Only one patch should need to be extracted, and that's only if 11eyes_update_patch101.exe can't locate the folder where you installed 11Eyes. Our patch simply needs to be placed into the game folder as-is and it should work. Can you try that first, and if that fails, are you using windows 10? If so, have you installed Japanese fonts (they are not installed be default, even if you 'upgraded' from a machine that had them).

Denwatls: Let me explain because I made a little mistake, I extracted patch 1.01 and after that placed the newest patch in game folder.

@ Denwatls, I've actually read that it's better if you ignore the very dated artwork.

Thanks again for the wonderful patch, though. The game lived up to every expectation I had of it. I've read that some people found it predictable and typical shounen style but I sincerely doubt they saw some of the twists coming or the reveal at the end.

@Denwatls, Right now I am in the middle of taking screenshots of all the error's I find playing through the VN, When I finish I'll get back to you!

To be honest, proofreading the script from scratch would be quite a bit more work than I originally was thinking, but if I have all the screen shots of error's, I could use find and replace to cut the time down a little. I could also send the folder of screenshot's to you if you would rather make the correction's.

I have never committed myself to a project like this, so I really wouldn't know how big of a job to expect. I recently decided to start studying Japanese because I would like to get into the localization business in the future. If I can't commit to to a simple proofreading and editing Job, how can I ever expect to fulfill my dream of translating entire visual novels?

Than again I know that it will probably take close to a decade to become proficient in Japanese, damn just thinking about the 2100+ Kanji I have to memorize makes my head hurt. My point is I have to start somewhere, or I will never make it anywhere.

I will get back to you when I have all the Screenshots, thank you,

Wednesday, December 28th 2016 @ 9:33 AM

Posted by Denwatls:

Mat: You appear to have installed the 11Eyes fandisk (Resona Forma). Our patch is for the main game (Tsumi to Batsu to Aganai no Shoujo). There's probably some incompatibility between the engine the used for 11Eyes and the engine for Resona Forma.

alchemicalhaze: Thanks! I'd personally recommend starting on a smaller project, 11Eyes is a considerable amount of text. Try something bite-seized, see how you do and how you feel about it, and go from there. P&E's not the only aspect of localization of course, there's managing the business, making connections, hacking, fixing, PR, etc. We wish you luck and look forward to the screenshots.

@Denwatls, I have compiled probably 70% of the screenshot errors! I am going to go through them and underline all the mistakes in a photo editor, than send them your way.

I have to go back through the first three or four hours since i did not start taking screen shots at the beginning. I also have to read through the cross-vision scenes since I didn't really understand what they were until the end of my third play-through. I will try to get what I have ready to send your way in a few days, but I want to wait a couple week to play through again so I can the experience the cross-vision as I play through the game, Thank you,
